SH*T BEACH TOWEL
Towel Artwork / Performance, 2024
Project developed in collaboration with photographer and friend Federico Aimar, conceived as a critical reflection on everyday acts of pollution and their accumulation in urban and natural environments. The work consists of a series of beach/picnic towels printed with photographic images of patches of grass and waste collected locally. When placed on the grass, the towels blend with the surrounding environment, simulating a situation of litter and degradation.
By using a familiar, everyday object, the project reverses the perception of the landscape, making visible what is usually ignored.
The work evolved into a performative action at Parco del Valentino in Turin, where the towels were sold as an itinerant vendor would do on beaches. Interaction with the public and the placement of multiple towels on the grass transformed the space into a temporary “illegal dump,” generated not by real waste but by its representation. A deliberately provocative gesture, intended to raise awareness among park-goers and stimulate collective reflection on the relationship between individual behavior and environmental responsibility.
The project is part of a broader research on perception, the use of public space, and shared responsibility dynamics, still in development.
