THE DRAGON RACE

Interactive Installation / Performative Game, 2024–ongoing

The Dragon Race is an interactive and performative installation that combines sculpture, play, and collective participation. The project consists of a series of large, luminous dragons made from paper, plastic, and various materials, conceived as monumental puppets moved and guided through strings and manual control systems.

The dragons come to life during an actual race: participants, divided into teams, guide and pull them through space, creating a playful and spectacular competition. The action transforms the installation into a dynamic event, where the act of playing becomes an integral part of the artwork. The dragons rise, sway, and glide through the air, creating the illusion of real flight and turning the space into a surreal and poetic landscape.

The experience engages not only the active participants but also the spectators. Viewers are drawn into the movement, light, and fantastical scale of the creatures, which appear to lift off the ground and fly through the sky. The collective gaze becomes a fundamental element of the project, transforming the action into a shared spectacle.

The Dragon Race exists at the intersection of installation, performance, and public play. The project reflects on the power of collective imagination, the body in motion, and the ability to generate wonder through simple gestures and accessible materials. Like a contemporary fairy tale, the work temporarily suspends everyday reality, introducing an experience of magic, lightness, and participation.

The project is adapted and activated in different contexts, including urban art festivals and open-air experimental workshops. While maintaining the same core structure, it transforms in response to space, audience, and the dynamics of play. The Dragon Race is an evolving work, living through movement, encounter, and the shared act of flying together.
